Caucus Retreat

House EventsEach year the South Carolina House Republican Caucus meets to discuss and plan for the coming legislative year.

This years planning retreat was held this weekend at the Marriott in Myrtle Beach. It was attended by 56 of the 73 members of the Caucus, and resulted in an agressive legislative agenda that will focus on growing our economy in South Carolina. The primary focus of this effort will be the Jobs & Economic Development Act of 2010, the RedTape Reduction Act, reforming the Employment Security Commission to focus more on job placement, and Tort Reform. The later issue I have been heavily involved in this summer preparing for moving this important bill as soon as possible this legislative year. The bill is currently in the Constitutional Laws subcommitte of the House Judiciary Comittee, which I am a member.

Also included on the legislative agenda is another issue which I have been heavily involved in; the Fiscal Responsibility Act or spending limitations and budget stabilization. This bill is currently in a House Ways and Means subcommittee.

Another item on the legislative agenda is Education reform, including my Charter School improvement bills, and funding.

With the possibility of impeachment debates this year this could prove to be a very ambitious agenda.

However, with the current state of our economy it is imperative that we remain focused the business that you have told me is most important to you; jobs!
